Imaginary Cities is the band. I tried to think up a good imaginary city -- I arrived at Buffy Summers' hometown of Sunnydale. Because I'm awesome like that.
And I suppose it's fitting. Well, in a very roundabout way, which I will now explain:
Buffy Summers, as the Slayer, spends lots of time in graveyards. Well, in the graveyard in Sunnydale.
Graveyard, also known as cemetery.
In a Hot Hot Heat song, they mention the flowers left in cemeteries for ghosts, but which only the hummingbirds enjoy.

Over 2009-2010, Dollhouse aired. At first, when a friend of mine explained the premise to me, I didn't think it sounded that great. Then I watched it and discovered that it actually is. I also didn't really like the theme song at first. But it grew on me. It's, in the words of Liz Lemon, "[n]ot too shabs."

During season seven (?) of Buffy (season four of Angel), and not following it, as I previously thought, another show of Joss Whedon's aired. Sadly, Firefly was canceled after only 14 episodes. The reasons for this cancellation make me too indignant to get into right now, so I won't.

However, a few years later, Whedon made the film Serenity to tie up the show for which he himself had written the theme song. Hence the above boldface.

Spin-off

Yes. Next, after -- well, during -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer came the spin-off, Angel. I know someone who started watching it, but stopped early on because he claimed it was too much like Scooby Doo. I have to say, I quite disagree.

Anyway, Darling Violetta wrote the theme song. My sister told me something about there was a theme song contest or something... I don't know.

Anyway, season 3 Amy Acker joins the main cast. It's been weird for me to watch, because her character, Fred, is so freaking adorable, and she's so drastically different from Dr. Saunders/Whiskey/Crystal/Clyde 2.0, all of whom she played in Thursday's show.

Oh, and before I forget! Though not featured in this Week, since I already featured both in the Month of Musicals (or was it the Musical Month?), I feel I should mention two other Joss Whedon products.

I love all things Joss Whedon. Therefore, I am having a week. One of the five-day ones, obviously. It's called the Joss Whedon Week. I've been looking forward to doing it for some time; and now it's finally here!!!!
I'm starting us off with the theme song from his earliest show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Such an amazing show! I'm currently on season six, and once I get home (in less than a month), I can resume watching. I can't wait!
I've even begun compiling a list of my favourite episodes -- a list which I intend to share over on Scoop Out My Brain once I finish the series.

Rolling Stone Magazine is having this contest. A bunch of unsigned artists are competing, and whoever wins will get on the cover. That's a big deal! Now, I've been voting for Lelia Broussard, and so I didn't really want to feature this song by another good band who was competing. Unfortunately, PK didn't make it past round one. There were 16 bands and artists. Now, in round two, there are only eight. And yes, Lelia Broussard is one of them.
There is an upside to PK being out, though, and that is that I can feature them without any conflict of interest. Sorry, guys. You were great -- I particularly liked "London." And yes, I'm aware they'll probably never actually see this. But it's comforting to me, at least.

Remember 2010? Those were good times.
I went home for Christmas after my last exam, which was on the 22nd. I got on the bus at 8:30 the next morning, and I was home by 6pm on the 23rd of December. Then I was home for about 20 minutes before I left for Russell, to see my high school friends. On the way, I listened to 88.5 (naturally), which I hadn't since being home. One disadvantage of schooling in Waterloo is that you can't listen to awesome Ottawa stations.
Anyway, I was almost in Russell when this amazing song came on! Whoa man, it was hawesome! Yes, with an H.
When they told me what it was, I proceeded to pull out my phone and write Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - "Home" into a note (the same note that I would later use for lyrics from the past two days' songs, and that I had already used to write down tomorrow's song).

'Twas the day that I came back to school after Christmas. My mom was insisting that I get new black dress pants, because the ones I had already are too big for me now. Which is a good thing, I guess, but it meant I had to go clothes shopping. With my mom. Not my favourite thing. Anyway, whilst in The Gap, I heard a song that was pretty good.
(Un?)fortunately, I didn't know the song. All I could tell was some of the lyrics and that it was definitely the voice of Brandon Flowers of The Killers. Whether it was him or them I didn't know, but you know because of which one I put in boldface.
Anyway, I typed as many of the lyrics as I could hear/remember into a note on my phone (not really relevant to the story, but flip phones are the best phones), and when I got a chance (actually, that's a lie; it was when I finally remembered to), I typed the lyrics with the aforementioned singer's name into Google, and found out that it was a song called "Was it Something I Said?"

The wedding-ness of the beginning of the song has actually cause me to associate the song in my head with Kill Bill. Ruh roh.

When I was first listening to "City Lights Cry" by Armistice, I was thinking, "Hey. This guy sounds like the guy from Bedouin Soundclash. Then I looked them up, and sure enough, half the band is Jay Malinowski. And that's how I remembered the lead singer from Bedouin Soundclash (which is also a good band) is name Jay Malinowski.

I recently started watching Dead Like Me, which is a really awesome show (although it aired almost ten years ago). They're 40-odd-minute episodes; hour-long with commercials. But the pilots crazy long. It's about an hour and 20 minutes!
Anyway, there's this song that gets played a lot in the pilot episode. It's "Hell" by Squirrel Nut Zippers. Curious band name, I know. Good song, though.

Anyway, I'm going to say more in the text area than just "text," even if all I said in the title space was "title" (in case you didn't get that that was the joke I was making.
I heard this song on the preview for the film Morning Glory, and I was like, "Hey, good song."
And after much effort, I figured out it was called "Change of Seasons" by Sweet Thing. Then I went to download it, only to find out I had already done that (I don't know when), and it got lost in the fantastic organization (and that's not sarcasm) that is my iTunes and my Music folder.

One Day

One day, I heard this song by Matisyahu on the radio. It wasn't called "One Day." I was like, "Hey, good song." So I wrote it down on a post-it to remind me to download it in the future. Then, one day, probably a couple years later, as computers improved I was finally able to download it. And I did. And I listened to it. And I didn't much care for it.
Then, one day a few years later (this past summer) my sister played me a different song of his, and it was called "One Day." It was really good, so I downloaded it.

I just hope that I still like it in a couple years' time.

I don't usually like First Choice Haircutters commercials. As a general rule, they kind of annoy me. But the latest one has a really awesome song. I couldn't figure it out so, following my sister's example, I went to the website. And, sure enough, there was a link there telling that the song was by a singer called Kai, and it said, "Click here to download 'I Choose Me.'"

Anyway, when you hear a good song on a commercial and you can't seem to figure out who it is or what it's called, sometimes it helps to go to the company's website. Example: Joe Fresh has really good music in their commercials. But we couldn't figure out what this one song was. In an act of desperation, my sister went to the Joe Fresh website, which revealed that the song was called "Lightning Don't Strike Twice" by Emilie Mover, who I think is Canadian (I mean, look how she French-ly spells her name). w00t!
It even let her download the song free. d0uble-w00t!

I discovered Heypenny by accident. Honest, I did! But I'm glad I did. Well, glad I discovered them. I makes no difference to me whether it was by accident. They're very... erratic. And I love that in a band. It makes them fun, exciting, and unpredictable. Quirky, if you will. For example, their song "Oh No." Or their song "Cop Car."

Well would you look at that. Apparently I'm featuring two songs today. But I'm not putting it off a day to make it a weekend, because I have a weekend in line for tomorrow that I just (accidentally) prepared. A surprise weekend, if you will. And yes, I mean a surprise to me.

Today I am two decades old. I feel pretty old. It's a bit depressing. I'm a grown-up now, and I now have to be mature and responsible and junk.
Anyway, January 22nd was our closing night for COLLEGE: The Musical. It was a pretty fantastic show, despite half our cast (including our male lead) getting sick at the beginning of show week. There are so many songs from it that I want to feature. But I have to pick one. So I'm going to go with... "Click, Smash!"

It's a song about Smash Fest which is pretty much Super Smash Bros. minus copyright infringement. It's pretty awesome.

Now, I know I just did a week last week, but I'm doing a weekend this weekend already. a Jeremy Fisher weekend, specifically.
I'm starting with the Jeremy Fisher song I've known the longest, which is really probably less than a year before the other ones I know. It's called "Cigarette." I had to explain to Eric that it's awfully metaphorical, and that Jeremy Fisher doesn't actually want to be smoked as a cigarette. I guess Eris can't catch things like that.

We're here! I'm so excited! Here we are, at the end of My Week! And my most favourite band in the whole wide worrrrrrrld!
It's The Arcade Fire, of course!
Now, on August third, 2010, I took the day off work. I went into town to give blood. Also I bought the first couple of Scott Pilgrim books. But it was also the day I turned 19 and a half! And, making the best half-birthday present ever, The Arcade Fire released their new album, "The Suburbs!"
Oh, I was so excited!!!
So anyway, in Cornwall, there's only one place where you can buy music anymore, and that's Wal-Mart. And Wal-Mart is not cheap when it comes to music. Also, they don't usually have albums the day they come out. Which sucks. But I figured I'd try it anyway. And they did have it! And it only cost $13.74! Holy shot-nurkers!
So naturally, I bought it.
Meanwhile, Live88.5 was having "Arcade Fire Day," in which they played a song from the new album every hour on the hour. When they did, you had to text "Arcade Fire" and your first and last name to 885885 for a chance to win the new album. I tried a couple times, before getting to Wal-Mart. Then, a couple days later, I got a call from 88.5 telling me I had won the new album! w00t!
So then I had to go into Ottawa. But that was fine, because we got to hang out with Laura! And then I had two of the album, so I gave one (the one I paid for) to my sister, instead of paying her for gas.
Now, I've decided to feature the first single from the album. It's called "Ready to Start." I love it, and when I heard it for the first time, I almost died! Good thing I didn't, though, because then, who would have finished milking the cows? Not the cows, that's for sure!

When Metric, who are tied for my fourth-favourite band, played a show at my school last year, they played in the gym of the Athletic Complex. Emily Haines changed "Stadium Love" to "Gymnasium Love."

She was really proud of that. After the show, I got a chance to talk to her briefly and get a picture with her. She really was really proud of that change.

I'm going to be honest. As great as Blackberries are, I do find them a little disappointing at times. However, it is true that they often have good music in their commercials. Like the new Blackberry Torch commercial.
I saw the commercial once, and the song that was playing was pretty good, based on the ten or so seconds of it that I heard. I was just about to say, "That song sounds pretty good; I wonder what it's called." But before I could, my roommate said, "Wow. That song sucks!"
She has... different taste in music.
Anyway, I looked it up. It's called "Fiyah" by Tune-Yards. I think it's pronounce how a British person would pronounce the word "fire," like the Lewis Carroll characters (from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There) Hatta and Haigha, whose names are actually pronounced how a British person would pronounce "Hatter" and "Hare."

Firefly was a great show! Like, really awesome! I'm really sad stupid Fox canceled it. Anyway, one of the main cast was Morena Baccarin, who was also in a few episodes of The O.C. Plus, she was Cloe in the episode of How I Met Your Mother "Swarley." It was at the end of that episode that they played a song by The Explorers Club. It's actually the only reason I know "Forever."

Hmm...... How do I know today's song? Now, I know I know Goldspot because of The O.C. They covered "Float On" by Modest Mouse, and that's on the CD "Covering Our Tracks" that I gave my sister for Christmas one time years ago.

All by mistake! That's how I discovered the band Windmill. I forget why, but I was looking up windmills on Wikipedia. something I wanted to know, I guess. Anyway, I typed in "Windmill" and got the relevant article. But then I wondered, "What would come up if I go to the disambiguation page?" So, I typed in "Windmill (disambiguation)" and got a lot of boring results. HOWEVER! One result was some band called Windmill. Some indie band from the UK. They didn't have an article (still don't), but they had a mention. And that was enough.
So, I looked them up, and came across a few songs. Particularly, "Ellen Save Our Energy."
I think this one is actually going on the CD I'm making for Caitlin, so SHH!

Yesterday I had a reprisal. A reprisal of three songs, previously featured. I would like to take this weekend, which I will call the Continuing Weekend, to feature different songs by each of those. Because they're all great, and I've only featured one song by each of those.
First, Florence + the Machine. The song is "Kiss With a Fist." I find it's awfully upbeat for a song about an abusive relationship. But that's part of what makes it great!

I'll bet she's an amazing performer.

There are a few songs that I've previously featured, but that I have since realized to a much greater degree. So, I'm reprising them, so to speak.
First, "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + the Machine.
I discovered it and featured. Then, months later, I rediscovered it and realized how awesome it was. Then, months later, I heard it on the radio and they were all, "This new song is so so great!" And I was all, "New? HA! Come on, radio people! You're months behind!" (That part of the story would be way better if you could actually hear me saying it.)
Anyway, this song is awesome!

Next, I'm bringing back some She & Him. I love Zooey Deschanel. She's awesome. I realized that when I watched (500) Days of Summer, as I didn't realize she was "she" when I first featured "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?"

And finally, a song called "Waving at the Shore." I wish I could teach myself the words, but I don't think they're anywhere on the Internet. Too bad Throw Me the Statue is such an obscure band.
